PARTICIPANT ARRIVAL TIME: Any time between 11:30am - Noon
MOB HAPPENS: 12:30pm on a whistle start
WHERE: 4th & Central
WHY: We are doing this in conjunction with Bueno Foods 60th Anniversary. It is for a spontaneous celebration of NM grown green chile. Bueno Foods will be on the 4th Street Mall giving away product from 11:30am – 1:30pm. There will be a radio remote, mariachis and Bueno’s Chile Pepper Mascot. The Mayor will deliver a proclamation at Noon at 4th & Central declaring May 18th Bueno Foods Day in Albuquerque.
Your flash mob “contact” will NOT be at the official Bueno table but will be mid-way between Central & Copper on the 4th Street Mall. The code phrase to identify yourself as a flash mob participant is “Red or Green?” You will be given a t-shirt and an uninflated green balloon.
Please stash your t-shirt and balloon in a bag, under your shirt or someplace out of the way but nearby.
Casually hang out with a friend, check your email, make a call or do some other sort of “I’m just hanging out” activity along the 4th Street Mall or at the corner of 4th & Central until the designated time of 12:30.
At 12:30 you will hear a whistle. At the sound of the whistle do the following in this order:
Put on your Keep NM Green t-shirt (over what you have on)
Blow up your balloon and tie it off.
Run south on the 4th Street Mall to form a line behind the mariachis (they will not be playing anything at this point. They will be standing waiting for the flash mob participants to line up behind them).
The mariachis will begin playing a Conga rhythm song.
We have 1 person designated to line up first and begin the cheer to the beat of the music.
Join in the cheer.
The cheer you will be doing is: I LOVE - NM – CHI-LEE! (say the letters “N” and “M” and NOT New Mexico)
The mariachis will then begin leading you down the Central Avenue sidewalk to 5th Street.
As they lead, you will Conga starting with your left foot. In a 4-count pattern, you shuffle your feet on 1, 2 and 3 and then kick your foot to the side (starting with a kick to the right) on count 4 and hold your balloon out to the same side. You’ll continue to do the cheer so here’s how the words line up with your steps
Left foot first – I LOVE
Right foot- NM
Left foot- Chi
Right foot kick to side – LEE!
Right foot first – I LOVE
Left foot – NM
Right foot – Chi
Left foot kick to side – LEE!
To get a glimpse of what it will look like, please watch this practice video put together by employees of Bueno Foods on YouTube: http://youtu.be/WPi0VorVhYA
We won’t be doing the traditional Conga where you hold onto the person in front of you because we want you to use the balloon on the same side as each kick. So hold the balloon in front of you and when you kick to the side also move the balloon to that side.
The mariachis will do a u-turn at 5th and lead everyone back to the 4th Street Mall.
As soon as the line stops you will stop the cheer and begin batting your balloons around, whooping, whistling and making lots of noise.
Listen for the whistle again. When you hear the whistle, you’ll immediately stop, pick up a balloon close to you and leave as if you have somewhere very important to be. Try to leave in different directions.
We will be videotaping and taking photographs which will be shared across a variety of social media outlets. We anticipate that news photographers will be on hand as well.
PLEASE DO NOT EXTEND THE LINE OR THE BALLOON BATTING OUT INTO THE ROAD. WE WANT TO KEEP THE ACTIVITY ON THE SIDEWALK AND THE 4TH STREET MALL.
Please feel free to pass these on to friends who might also like to participate!
It’s hard to believe Hello Kitty is 35. This is Hello Kitty decked out by Swarovski in honor of the birthday. And in New York, at the Japan Society… a contemporary art exhibition called “Bye Bye Kitty”
Moose has been named JetBlue’s “Most-Traveled Four-Legged Jetsetter.” You and your high-flying dog could win a trip sponsored by JetBlue and Kimpton. But only if he’s under 20 pounds. Just upload a photo of your dog on Twitter and use the hashtag #JetPaws.
I had to post this because I recently had a Facebook discussion with friends where I extolled the virtues of New England’s whoopie pies and told them that donuts & cupcakes were out and that whoopie pies were in. These have appeared on the Starbucks menus in Albuquerque. I have not tried them yet, but I know I will.
I post this because everyone always comments on my last name “Forbes”. Do I think it’s made me more successful? No. But it helps to have a recognized brand as my last name. I think it makes it easier for people to remember.
